Hi,

I have a lot of questions that hopefully someone/s can answer. I had a talking phone that worked well for me until it died recently. It was an Owasys 22C, so it was pretty outdated technologically when I got it back in 2005, however it met my needs pretty well. Since it's death earlier this year, I've been using a six-year-old Nokia that I had in a box and put back to use, however, I find that I really miss texting and such.

I was wondering if there are any phones out there that have a nice phone keypad, or keyboard, that can be used with Mobile Speak or Talks, with T Mobile? I really only need a phone for making calls, recieving calls, knowing who called, setting select ringers for select contacts, putting contacts in my phone book, reminders in my calendar, and texting. I don't necessarily need a phone that's got the internet, windows live, email and all that stuff. Are there any phones like that out that anymore that are more of your basic phone, or are all of them phones that can do a billion things? I'd really like to find something that has a key pad with easy to figure out buttons or something if possible, rather than a touch screen. I'm just not sure how comfortable I am with the touch screen, however if that's all that's out there, I'd have to use it. Are any phones that are available on the market today sort of like what I'm describing? I'm eligible for an upgrade to a new phone with T Mobile, and if I could get a new phone for free, or even half off or something, and then only have to buy Mobile Speak, that'd be sweet. I've also heard that Mobile Speak, in particular, does not work as well with Windows based phones because it crashes more with those than with Cimbian based phones. Have any of you found this to be the case? Lastly, how hard is it to install Mobile Speak/talks without sighted assistance, because I don't have sighted help where I live.
Thank you for any help you can provide,
Dawnielle

Well just about any phone that supports Mobile Speak is almost certainly going to have the capability to access the internet, whether you make that part of your plan or not. The software is going to be there. It's not so much the service provider that matters as far as Mobile Speak goes as the type of phone itself. Go on the Code Factory web site and look under the list of phones. It's quite extensive so you should be able to find something that suits your needs. Just be aware that whether you use those features or not whatever phone you choose is probably going to have a camera and the capability at least of accessing the internet.

alright here goes .. first off lets get one thing straighted out .. talks works best if using a nokia phone .. mobile speak works best if using a windows mobile phone. That being said mobile speak works pretty well on nokia phones now as well, but considering they are the same price if buying them outright i'd go for talks if getting a nokia phone. Now for TMobile there is only none nokia phone that i am aware of that would work with talks and its the e73, it's a non touch screen with a full keyboard. if you want a windows mobile phone then check the code factory website or check with TMobile to see which windows mobile phones they currently have. Don't know about mobile speak on a windows mobile phone but talks can be installed with out sighted assistance by connecting the phone to the PC. Do a search for a board topic on here something about using the e71x with talks where i explained in detail how to install with out sighted assistance.

MobileSpeak works wonderfully on windows mobile, and can be installed completely without sighted help. i've done it several times now, the installer does all the work for you.

On the windows mobile side, the panteck matrex or how ever its spelled seemes to work well with mobile speak.

Lets get one thing straight to, moble speak does not crash that much on the windows side. From my experence it has some to do with older platform like the Q9c and etc. I would recommend the 3g dash. Its not a touch screen device and works great with moble speak. I on the other hand went with a touch screen device and a slide out keyboard. Its the touch pro2 it works great.

Would the Q9H come under the same heading? Because the entire phone likes to lock up on me fairly regularly.

Recently, went back to a droid device after my 4rth windows mobile phone died on me in the past 2 years. It's not for the less technically able at this point, but if you're willing to tinker and learn some droid terminology and a slightly different approach for doing things, It does offer access now to just about everything on the phone including email and internet. Now, that being said there are several different models out there and something with an onboard keyboard is prefered. Friend of mine just got the slider from htc on the t mobile network. I could be wrong on the name, and if it becomes information you need let me know.

To big dog daddy, is the dialer accessible during a call yet. like say if you call your bank or something like zbp are you now able to enter the proper login info with talk back?

Yes, you can, also, with the development of k9 email and internet are now very accessible. Another very nice advantage is the syncronizing of the gmail calendar, my wife and I always have to share a calendar for scheduling clients ETC, and being able to have that auto syncronized to my phone is nice. The goolg developers are very active in the android mailing list for non visual access, so it's at least comforting to know there are folks who care, and with to hear concerns.
